About the Role:

The Imports Breakbulk Clerk plays a critical role in the logistics and secured transportation industry by managing and coordinating the receipt, documentation, and processing of breakbulk cargo shipments. This position ensures that all imported goods are accurately recorded, tracked, and handled in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. The role involves close collaboration with customs officials, freight forwarders, and warehouse personnel to facilitate smooth cargo flow and timely delivery. The Imports Breakbulk Clerk is responsible for maintaining detailed records and resolving discrepancies to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Ultimately, this role contributes to the seamless movement of goods through the supply chain, minimizing delays and optimizing resource utilization.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and process import documentation for breakbulk cargo, including bills of lading, manifests, and customs paperwork.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with import regulations and timely clearance of shipments.
  • Track and monitor the status of incoming breakbulk shipments, updating internal systems and communicating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Inspect cargo upon arrival to verify condition and quantity, reporting any discrepancies or damages to appropriate parties.
  • Maintain accurate records of all import transactions, including filing and archiving documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and logistics teams to schedule unloading, storage, and distribution of breakbulk cargo.
  • Assist in resolving issues related to shipment delays, documentation errors, or customs holds to minimize operational disruptions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in import operations, logistics, or transportation, preferably within breakbulk cargo handling.
  • Familiarity with import documentation and customs clearance procedures.
  • Proficiency in using inventory management and shipment tracking software.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in logistics, supply chain management, or related field.
  • Experience working with international shipping regulations and compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and safety protocols.
  • Ability to operate warehouse management systems (WMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Strong communication skills for effective coordination with internal teams and external partners.
