Virtual Sign Language Interpreter K12 Education (Oregon)
Job Summary:
VocoVision is seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for K12 students across Oregon public schools. This position plays a key role in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equitable access to instruction, communication, and participation in virtual learning environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide real-time ASL interpretation during online classroom instruction, virtual meetings, and school events.
Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL, and voice student responses as needed.
Collaborate with teachers, special education teams, and school administrators to support students communication and learning needs.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
Participate in IEP meetings to provide insight on communication accommodations and accessibility.
Deliver interpreting services through secure, FERPA-compliant virtual platforms.
Complete required documentation, such as interpreting logs and service reports, in accordance with district or agency policies.
Qualifications:
Required:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
Current or eligible Oregon educational interpreter license or Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification recognized by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).
High school diploma or GED and completion of an interpreter training program.
RID certification or EIPA score of 3.5 or higher.
Proficiency with online platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams.
Reliable high-speed internet and a professional, distraction-free home workspace.
Preferred:
Experience interpreting in Oregon K12 educational settings.
Familiarity with Oregon Department of Education (ODE) policies, IEP processes, and special education terminology.
Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, Communication, or a related field.
Work Environment:
This is a fully remote position. Candidates must maintain a quiet, dedicated home workspace and a reliable internet connection. All interpreting services are provided through secure video conferencing tools supplied by VocoVision.
