Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Job Summary:
VocoVision is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for K12 students across California public schools . This role plays a vital part in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equitable access to instruction, communication, and school participation within an online learning environment.
Provide real-time ASL interpretation during virtual classroom instruction, online lessons, meetings, and school events.
Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL, and voice student responses when needed.
Collaborate with educators, special education teams, and school administrators to support students communication access.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct .
Participate in IEP meetings to provide input on communication accommodations and access needs.
Use secure, FERPA-compliant platforms for virtual interpreting sessions.
Complete all required documentation, including interpreting logs and progress reports, in accordance with district or agency policies.
Required:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
California interpreter certification or eligibility to obtain appropriate credentials for educational interpreting.
High school diploma or GED, plus completion of an interpreter training program.
RID certification or equivalent (e.g., EIPA score of 3.5 or higher ).
Proficiency with virtual platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams.
Reliable high-speed internet connection and a professional, distraction-free remote workspace.
Preferred:
Prior experience interpreting in California K12 educational settings .
Familiarity with California Department of Education guidelines and special education terminology.
Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, Communication, or a related field .
This is a fully remote position . Candidates must have a quiet, dedicated home workspace and stable internet connectivity. All interpreting services are delivered through secure video conferencing tools provided by VocoVision.
