Up to 24 months Limited Term, May Become Permanent
There will be only one vacancy, and it will either be in Eureka or Redding.

Under the general direction of the North Region Division Chief, the incumbent plans, supervises, coordinates and directs District Right of Way branches in project delivery efforts and all Right of Way related activities for the Redding and Eureka Right of Way offices. The incumbent will be responsible for various District Right of Way objectives and operations. The span of control will include the Right of Way District branches of Project Coordination, Excess Lands, Mitigation, Utilities, Appraisal, Acquisition, Railroad Coordination, and Utility Coordination. Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating state owned or leased vehicles.

Pursuant to California Code of Regulations § 549.90, this position will be filled via the California Department of Transportation Managerial Selection Program (MSP) process.

This process provides for examination and job-selection specific to each position and consistent with the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the classification.

This is a Caltrans Promotional examination.

Applicants must have a permanent civil service appointment with the Department of Transportation and meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date to participate in the examination.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Either I

Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Senior Right of Way Agent.

Or II

Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience involving all major phases of the acquisition of rights of way for governmental or public utility use, two years of which must have been in a full supervisory or administrative capacity. (Experience in the California state service applied toward this requirement must include at least two years performing the duties of a class with a level of responsibility not less than Senior Right of Way Agent.) and

Education: Equivalent to graduation from college. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)

Examination Information:

This examination will utilize an evaluation of each candidate’s experience and education (E&E) compared to a standard developed from the Class Specification. For this reason, it is especially important that each candidate take special care in accurately and completely filling out his or her State application (STD. 678). List all experience relevant to the “Minimum Qualifications”.

This examination will not establish a civil service list; therefore, candidates will not have the ability to transfer their eligibility to other departments. Candidates will be notified of their examination results.

Note: If using Out of Class (OOC) experience , you must submit a copy of your signed and approved OOC documentation. Failure to do so may result in your OOC experience not being considered during the evaluation process of this examination.

Education: If using your college education to meet the minimum qualifications, college transcripts must be submitted with your application and SOQ. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted for entrance into the examination; however, official transcripts may be required prior to appointment.
