POSITION: Specialist, Health Aide
SCHEDULE: 7 hours per day; 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (start/end times based on building location and student need); Monday-Friday; School Year
LOCATION: Sunset Elementary
SUPERVISOR: Building Principal(s)
POSITION TYPE: Classified, Ongoing
COMPENSATION: $21.10-$25.94/hour** depending on comparable experience; Pay is annualized over 12 months (if hired after start of school year, spread over remaining months of fiscal year (Sept-Aug))
**Some assignments include an additional $1.00/hour for hygiene-related duties
OTHER COMPENSATION: ***Degrees eligible for a salary enhancement as follows, regardless of degree program or position with the district (cannot be stacked in the case of multiple degrees (highest degree stipend will be applied))
• AA, BA, MA degree, or PhD, adds $0.50/hour, $1.00/hour, $1.50/hour, $2.00/hour, respectively***

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent; Valid Washington State Drivers License; WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance; Must have a first aid certificate/CPR certificate or obtain within 30 calendar days of hiring.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A health aide may perform all or some of the responsibilities defined below:
- Monitor students with special needs (i.e. diabetes, asthma, and allergy) per individual health care plan. This may include supervising students on playground and field trips.
- Perform first aid triage including documentation of health information as directed by building registered nurse.
- Responsible for supplies and sanitation in health room.
- Administer medication per district policy.
- Maintain and update health records including immunization cards, health room logs, vision/hearing screening, school-wide health list and other assigned tasks in Skyward system as well as in student health files.
- Willingness to be trained as a Parent Designated Adult (PDA) for designated students.
- Assist with health records requests, exchange of information requests, and communicating to others when records are received.
- Support registered nurse for Home Hospital tutoring requests.
- May assist in special education self-contained classroom, as needed.
- Perform personal hygiene assistance.
- May perform tasks as delegated by registered nurse, including catheterization.
Each of the positions at the specific school serves as one unit of the whole team, and as such, is subject to assignment to tasks in other areas within the classification.
QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES: - Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of health care techniques and principles.
- Knowledge of communicable diseases.
- Ability to work with students who have individual educational and health plans.
- Ability to use proper grammar and English in both oral and written communication, as well as the usage of correct spelling and basic arithmetic functions.
- Knowledge of basic record keeping skills.
- Knowledge of emotional and physical assessment of students.
- Ability to administer medications, first aid and CPR to students.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must respect confidential nature of correspondence of files, and confidential personal contact with public regarding students.
- Skill in prioritizing work and completing tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to be trained to make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
- Experience in health care field preferred.
- Demonstrate ability to promote students' best interests through positive role modeling and student advocacy.
- Must have a first aid certificate/CPR certificate or obtain within 30 calendar days of hiring.
- Must be able to work in a team setting.
Testing may to be used to determine knowledge of pertinent skills.
