Quality Manager – Machined Products A Quality Manager with "hands-on" background that encompasses both quality assurance and quality control. Responsibilities include: ensuring that all machined products meet strict design specifications and quality standards from the initial design phase through final production. Core Responsibilities Establishing Quality Standards: Develop and implement a quality management system (QMS) aligned with industry standards like ISO 9001. This involves creating detailed procedures, policies, and documentation to ensure consistent quality throughout the mold-making process. Inspection and Auditing: Conduct regular inspections and audits at various stages of production. This includes inspecting incoming raw materials, checking in-process work, and performing a thorough final inspection of the finished molds. They use precision measuring tools like micrometers, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to verify dimensional accuracy. Process Improvement: Analyze production data, identify root causes of defects or non-conformities, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). The goal is to continuously improve processes to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and enhance mold quality. This often involves applying methodologies like Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing. Problem-Solving: Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to mold quality. This includes conducting a thorough root cause analysis to understand why a defect occurred and working with the engineering and production teams to find a solution. Additional Training and Mentoring: The Quality Manager often acts as a leader and a teacher. They train and mentor a small team of technicians or even other employees on quality procedures, proper inspection techniques, and the importance of quality control. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and corrective actions. They create and present reports to management, providing insights into quality performance, defect rates, and the effectiveness of improvement initiatives. Supplier Management: Work with suppliers to ensure the quality of raw materials and purchased components, such as steel blocks and mold bases, meets the company's standards. Customer Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding quality issues. This may involve visiting customer sites to address concerns, presenting solutions, and building trust by demonstrating the company's commitment to quality.
