Job Description
OFFSET PRESS OPERATOR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED
Operates Offset Press to produce "Best In Class" packaging for domestic and international use.
Responsibilities
Operate offset press, troubleshoot and monitor operation.
Prepare and operate web or sheet‑fed offset printing press to print single‑ and multi‑color copy from lithographic plates. Examine job order to determine quantity to be printed, stock specifications, colors, and special printing instructions. Measure plate thickness and insert packing sheets on plate cylinder to build up plate to printing height and install and lock plate into position using hand tools to achieve required printing pressure. Wash plates to remove protective gum coating. Measure paper thickness and adjust space between blanket and impression cylinders according to thickness of paper stock. Fill ink and dampening solution fountains and adjust controls to regulate flow of ink and dampening solution to plate cylinder. Start press, examine printed copy for ink density, position on paper, and registration, and make adjustments throughout production run to maintain specific registration and color density. Remove and clean plates and cylinders. May apply packing sheets to blanket cylinder to build up blanket thickness to diameter of plate cylinder.
Oversee general technicians working on equipment.
Make adjustments, clear jams while processing product, maintaining speed and quality.
Ensure efficient and rapid make ready, unloading, and loading.
Quality
Review and ensure all jobs are complete, accurate and error free.
Ensure finished product exceeds customer expectations.
Ensure all checklists are completed.
Support and communicate all ISO 9001‑2000 standards and quality objectives to the Offset Press Team.
Comply with cGMP, HACCP Food Safety Requirements and Chain of Custody.
OHSE & Clean
Ensure complete adherence and compliance to the OHSE and Clean policies and assist team members in maintaining clean and safe environment.
Maintain and follow all company policies and procedures for safety, personal protection and hazardous materials/waste handling according to established guidelines.
Follow all personal protection procedures using appropriate personal protective equipment at all times while in designated areas and for specific tasks requiring PPE.
Follow established procedures and guidelines for handling and disposing of all hazardous materials/waste.
Maintain and wear proper uniform according to company policy.
Use company–provided safety lifting equipment, e.g., hoist, jacks, vacuum manipulators, etc.
Regularly examine work areas to keep them safe and neat.
Properly store and arrange work area to maintain cleanliness and safety following all safety rules and regulations for grounding, storage, spill clean‑up, etc.
Effectively demonstrate the ability to maintain the work area in a safe and proper working order and coach crew in safe work practices.
Communications
Interact with the team and co‑workers in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation and contributes to excellent performance.
Communicate accurate information to all team members professionally and courteously, conveying a willingness to assist.
Accept direction and feedback from supervisor and follow through appropriately.
Leadership
Create and maintain a high‑performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong team orientation.
Develop the team and encourage each member to do what needs to be done correctly and efficiently. Get it right the first time.
Communicate regularly with the team toward goals and required results, providing specific feedback and initiating corrective action when goals or results are not met.
Motivate crew to improve quantity and quality of work performed and provide training as required.
Consistently use appropriate established channels of communication.
Conduct team meetings when necessary.
Perform any and all work or additional tasks as required or requested by Department Leads, Shift Leads, or Management.
Requirements
High School diploma (or GED).
Minimum of 3 years of Offset Press equipment operation.
Interpersonal and communication skills.
Basic computer and mathematical skills necessary to compute percentages, weights and measures.
Physical Demands
Requires prolonged periods of standing, stooping, bending and/or reaching, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, hearing and speaking.
Frequent lifting in excess of 60 lbs is required.
Must be able to hold, touch, feel and manipulate product and equipment with hands safely. Manual dexterity is required.
Use of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus as well as good eye‑hand coordination.
Must be available to work in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week when necessary to meet customer product needs.
