Job Description
The primary duty of the equipment controller/dispatcher is to coordinate on-time pick-up and delivery of loads while managing the equipment inventory. The EC/dispatcher spends more than half of his or her time performing this duty, which is comprised of the following sub-duties: tracing loads/shipments; managing freight volume; and monitoring equipment use to ensure maximum efficiency. In the performance of these duties, the dispatcher exercises independent judgement, largely without direct supervision, in determining when/where/how/and what is required to either pick up or deliver a load, which requires real-time decision-making by the dispatcher. In this capacity, dispatchers actively support the truck drivers in the performance of their duties.
